W. Judson Martin - Chairman, CEO, and Director
In 1979 Mr. Martin began his career with the Calgary, Alberta based partnership of Coopers & Lybrand, Chartered Accountants. In 1982, he joined Trizec Corporation, also based in Calgary, and over the next 11 years held increasingly senior financial management positions including Vice President, Finance and Treasurer. During that period, Trizec was North America's largest, publicly traded real estate company, with assets in excess of $12 billion.
In 1995, Mr. Martin joined MDC Corporation (“MDC”), a TSE and NASDAQ-listed company, as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and later Chief Operating Officer, and a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. During his tenure, the company’s annual revenue grew from $49.6 million to $350.0 million and assets increased from $124.1 million to in excess of $400.0 million.
Mr. Martin was Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. (“Alliance Atlantis”) from March 2003 to June 2005 and was Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer from May 1999 to November 2002, and served as a Director of the Company. Alliance Atlantis is a TSX and NASDAQ-listed Media Company with principal business activities in cable broadcasting and the creation and worldwide distribution of filmed entertainment. Alliance Atlantis has assets of approximately $1.5 billion and annual revenue in excess of $1billion.
Mr. Martin is currently a member of the Board of Trustees and sits on the Audit and Governance/Compensation Committees of Somerset Entertainment Income Fund, a TSX listed income trust. Mr. Martin is also a member of the Board of Directors of Sino Forest a TSX listed company, with operations in China and sits on the company’s Audit and Compensation Committees. As well, Mr. Martin is Non Executive Chairman of the Board of Skypower Energy Fund LP, currently Canada’s largest wind energy generation project and Chair of its Audit, Governance/Compensation and Liquidity Committees.
